September 2026 Ukraine Update

Jim Spivey, Mike Langston, and Todd Combee returned from Ukraine on September 7, 2026, after teaching and meeting with Ukrainian partners in Kyiv. Building on MIC’s agreement with the National School of Judges, the team proposed eight Chaplain Resource Network (CRN) modules for judicial training, and Langston taught the school’s leadership staff on moral decision-making.

The Supreme Court of Ukraine actually posted on its social media about our Memorandum of Understanding [Click here for the English Translation]. Spivey taught 21 Kyiv Theological Seminary students about the rehabilitation and reintegration of military chaplains. The team also provided CRN curriculum recommendations to the seminary, Chaplain Patrol, and the Ukrainian Baptist Union and presented at a conference for 400 Baptist military chaplains.

MIC contributed $1,000 toward chaplains’ conference registration fees. With Ukrainian partners, the team advanced plans to publish a Ukrainian edition of The Heart of a Chaplain by summer 2027. Your support helps MIC equip those offering spiritual care and Christian hope amid the continuing demands of war.

 A Growing Global Cry for Support

The Marsh Institute continues to receive requests for assistance from seminary presidents, chaplains, and pastoral leaders in California, Sweden, Uganda, and cities across war-torn Ukraine. These requests echo needs already expressed by ministry leaders in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Malaysia, and other regions.

Although the settings differ, the need is consistent: chaplains require practical training, sound biblical formation, and dependable resources to serve people with competence and compassion.

This need directly engages the Marsh Institute’s mission to collaborate with, equip, support, and advocate for chaplains wherever they serve. Through the generosity of donors and ministry partners, MIC provides training, mentoring, and practical resources for chaplains serving in hospitals, correctional facilities, military settings, courtrooms, schools, and communities around the world."

Standing with Ukraine in the Darkest Hour

When the Marsh Institute’s leadership traveled to war-torn Ukraine, we witnessed firsthand the profound strain on those holding society together. We came first to listen to their struggles and assess their unique needs. That journey bore critical fruit.

As a result, we have had multiple engagements with “Chaplain Patrol” members, churches, institutions, and seminaries. We have engaged and taught national Youth Ministry Leadership, “Chaplain Patrol” (public safety) chaplains, church leaders, seminaries, and officials serving within national courts.

Additionally, we have signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ukrainian School of Judges to deliver tailored training for legal professionals, judges, and public safety personnel. Together, we are helping shape a sustainable chaplaincy network that provides vital spiritual and emotional care to police officers, military personnel, judges, and their families during a season of relentless uncertainty and trauma.
